The Dunbar & Wausaukee Railroad (D&W) has instituted a new numbering system for its trains. All daily train movements will be assigned a number from the list below. The following example explains how  the numbering system works.

EXAMPLE:  Train  L-110
The first Alpha-Character (in this example "L") describes the Train Type. See list below.
The following 3 numbers "110" are assigned according to the origin and destination of the train per the chart below.
So, in this example Train L-110 is the local turn that works from Green Bay to Coleman and back.

Another example would be Train C-502. According to the chart, this is a Unit Coal train running from Channing to Green Bay.

The Dispatcher will use the Train Number to identify each train that runs during an operating session. This is also the number that is used on a Track Warrant.

TRAIN TYPES

I = Industrial Switcher
These trains stay and work only in a particular town to do local switching.

L = Local Turn
A Local Turn is a road switcher that does local switching along the way from the town of Origin to the Destination and then back to the Origin. Typically a local turn will depart from a yard with a cut of cars to be spotted at local industries. It will also pull cars from these industries. It may also setout or pickup blocks of cars on sidings.

M = Manifest
A Manifest or Thru train forwards blocks of cars from one yard to another. It may stop to setout or pickup blocks along the way, but it does not do local switching.

C = Unit Coal Train

P = Unit Box Car Train
A unit train of Box Cars that transport paper pulp from Ontanogon. Southbound loads, northbound emptys for reloading.

Z = Unit Intermodal Train
RoadRailers or Container Trains, non-stop from yard to yard.

X = Extra
Any Train not listed above.
